Designed by Edsel Ford to combat the promising cars coming from growing competition and as a follow up to the iconic Model T, the Model A was introduced in 1927 and resulted in 4.8 million being produced in it five-year production run.
This particular example is unique in the fact that it has only changed hands three times since new and that the second owner, a close friend of the original owner, was the person to complete the restoration. The first and second owners actually drove the car together during high school in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s before the car was retired to a barn, as is so typically the case. After 40 years in storage, the car was in surprisingly original condition and rolled out on its 40+-year-old tires that actually held air after being inflated.
A full restoration followed with all of the wood painstakingly restored/replaced and all of the original sheet metal refinished and put back together. The level of attention to detail is stunning, with painstaking care being paid to the smallest items. After re-assembly, a coat of dark burgundy—Henry Ford’s favorite color—was reapplied to the body.
The car now resides in the care of the loving third owner who wants to see it passed on to someone who will enjoy it as much as he has. The owner has used the car sparingly for short tours, parades, and ice cream runs. Since completion, has only covered 1,166 miles. This exquisite Model A looks as good as, if not better, then it did when it rolled off the assembly line in 1931.
